What is global warming?

Global warming is caused by the release of carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping gases into the earth’s atmosphere. The gases act like a thick blanket, trapping the sun’s heat and causing the planet to warm up.

This is problematic to human civilization because it will result in increasingly severe storms and droughts, melting glaciers, rising seas, changing weather patterns and widespread diseases. Unless we curb global warming emissions, average temperatures could rise by 3 to 9 degrees by the end of the century.

How can you help?

A small effort can make a difference. Here are 10 tips that anyone can follow to do their part.

Use an electric fan
Use an electric fan in our tropical heat instead of relying on the air-con.

Change a light
Replace regular light bulbs around the house with compact fluorescent light bulbs.

Drive less
Walk, cycle or carpool with friends. Alternatively, taking public transport instead of driving can also save a great deal of CO2.

Recycle More
Recycle all your household waste (newspapers, plastic bottles, magazines).

Turn off your electronic devices
Switch off lights, appliances and electronic equipment when they are not in use. Switch off at the main power after you’re done.

Avoid products with a lot of packaging
Look for fuss-free products. Simply cutting down your garbage by 10% makes a difference.

Use paper wisely
Think carefully about whether you really need to print a document. If you must, use recycled paper, or make use of both sides of the sheet.

Use less hot water
Wash your clothes in cold or warm water & dry them under the sun instead of using a mechanical dryer.

Plant a tree anywhere
A single tree will absorb 1 ton of carbon dioxide over its life time.

Pass it on
Small efforts make an impact if many people change their ways. Tell a friend to catch AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH premiering on HBO at 9PM on 22 April 2008!

Too bad man! I do not have a TV and ASTRO! This is how shitty it has to be living without an idiot box which shows a lot of documentaries! Oh thankfully there’s repeat shows at 1pm on 23rd, 115am on 24th and 7am & 11pm on 25th. Don’t miss it!

Nevertheless, there’s a new movie coming up too, it’s called THE 11TH HOUR, starring Leonardo DiCaprio who is also an environmental activist, previews on 24th of April. I’m so gonna watch it.

22 April marks the Earth Day. Read up! Read up!

Normally, people are busy revising the lecture notes, trying to answer past years’ questions, memorising some of the facts if needed, doing all sorts of exercises (tutorial questions) as much as possible.

So then, no more Internet for the time being because obviously it’s the most distracting space on earth, oh I don’t mean earth as in the ground because cyber space is not on the ground but yeah maybe I should use the word “world” instead since it comprises most of the things. lol

What happens is that there is offline mode. People tend to appear in offline mode because they don’t wanna get disturbed by other friends from the buddy list (but I doubt you chat with each and every single of them, haha). Anyway, not getting disturbance could also mean they waste their time surfing the net, Facebook perhaps or even blogging. It’s cliche, isn’t it? I think it’s very.

I’m not committing any fallacies here, not doing any hasty generalisation. But I thought generalisation is good at times, as you don’t wanna be specific because you don’t wanna hurt the others’ feelings. But “siapa makan cili, dia rasa pedas!” Haha.

I always appear offline in these few days, I admit that there is disturbances. It’s hard to concentrate, seriously. Of course I also waste my time on the Internet, but it can’t be helped. But then again, Internet is also a good source of information. Pros and cons, there are.

What am I doing right now? Appearing online though but nobody chats with me so I decided to blog. Part of wasting time! Haha.

Oh I just got home from nasi lemak session with roomie and Mich at Paramount Garden. Fried chicken was totally awesome! Like I can still smell the chicken being deep fried in that big wok. Yummmm.

2 hours of crap isn’t that much suffice too though. I thought we could talk more but then exam starts tomorrow. Oh, what a bummer!

I shall now get back to books. Actually I’m in the sleeping mood. *grins* Oh dear, please come back ‘cos I’m missing you already!

How much does it take to make a decision?

A trip to Perhentian Island? I asked “how many wants to go?” *doubtlessly raise my hand* Oh, I saw another hand and another one and another one there.

I thought it’d be a fun gathering at some where we’ve never been to. I’ve already imagining myself shooting breath-taking sceneries. What’s more? Underwater creatures, that would open up my eyes for something real new.

318 is the price we will be paying and it’s in RM, of course. I know that sounded lame, I did that on purpose. 3 days 2 night, I think that’s reasonable enough because it’s inclusive of meals, snorkelling gears and boat rides.

Okay, 318 might be too much for some people, I understand that. Could’ve spent the money for something else better. But I thought it would a fun trip to be for the simple reason like course mates going out on an outing together.

Scrap the idea of going, I’m not keen on knowing who’s going or not for now. I’m more interested to know if the trip will be cancelled. 2 reasons for that- to move out from PJ house to Subang house and two- to get back home in Penang.

Maybe that sounded a little harsh but seriously, I need to plan ahead since I’ve got my own things to do over the sem break, just like you do. And that we, coming from other states, needs to go back to hometown. Things like booking tickets, etc etc, needs to be done beforehand.

No, I’m not angry, just a little frustrated, partly because of the upcoming final exams. I’m going back to books.

Finally

Everything is done. No more assignments! NO MORE! But I wasn’t impressed for not having anymore assignments to hand in. I still feel the hang-over of it, like there’s a lot more to do. I think I’m not the only one who feels like this, right guys? We even had to submit our assignments and had a quiz on the last week where we are supposed to be given the coursework marks! Damn! Everything is so screwed up in this sem. Agree agree? Study break now, some went back hometown, some stayed. I stayed.

Had a nice night-out just now. It has always been fun to have a talk-cock-sing-song session with friends. We talked a lot of stuffs, shared laughter and joy. Isn’t it nice? This is part of the uni-life. Get together with buncha buddies, do crazy things. Oh yeah, went to PC Fair for the whole day. Lucky thing I wore a jacket because I hate to have the body contact with strangers, especially in a huge congested crowd. Ewww! We reached KLCC at about 1030am and left almost 6pm! That’s so crazy! Can’t believe we stayed there for almost 7+ hours! Minus 2 hours for a movie we watched - Street Kings (Keanu Reeves is always good!)

Oh well, I skipped 2 meals and only had supper since the moment I got down from my bed. But clearly hunger is not a super major problem because I can still walk around in the halls to look at gadgets. Ooooh the cooler master is… so cool! I have the casing and I wanted to upgrade it to a better machine!! Can’t wait until I have the cash.

I think I’ma sleep now. Nitey nite! Oooh yeah, decided to go back on the 6th of May. Can’t wait to see my family! Missed Ryan so much and Peter too. I’m coming back, I’m coming back. “Please be patience Amy.” (<< inner speech!! haha!) Anyway, bed is calling me. Bye bye.

I feel like I’m in confined space. There’s no way out. What am I suppose to do? or rather what have I done? This is seriously wrong, wrong and so wrong. What am I going to do?

One wants to leave after another. How am I taking this? Tell me how! I don’t know anymore. I just couldn’t express my inner feelings of how sad I am right now.

STRESS!
