Some people see 5 sen as junk just because the value is very little. Some people keep 5 sen coins because they know it is useful.
How significant does a 5 sen coin to you?
It makes a lot of different to a coffee shop owner. It sure does.
I had dinner at a nearby food court and found something rather amusing.
Normally, we order some drinks the moment we find a place to sit. Yes? Right. Then we pay when the drinks are served.
Now, in my case, the bill came and it was RM8.85, RM4.20 for each Air Tebu Medium (we had two cups of that) and RM0.45 for the 5% govt tax. I paid RM10, expected to get back RM1.15 as change. (Sounds like answering Maths paper ^^)
So, instead of RM1.15, he gave me RM1.10 as he didn’t have enough of 5 sens to be distributed around. FINE.
NOW. IMAGINE.
RM0.05 X 200 tables = RM10 (say this is for an hour)
What if it is for the whole day and night? (Say 18 hours)
RM10 X 18 hours = RM180
RM180 X 30 days = RM5400
RM5400 FOR NOT GIVING that 5 sen because workers did not carry as much with them to be given out as change? because it is of the very little value?
Free money from the consumers, a.k.a. US.
Significant or not at all?
Think again.
